ATASCOCITA-KINGWOOD GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

AKGS Leaders

President and Board Member - Patricia Ann Parkinson

As a 4th generation Floridian, her devotion to genealogy runs deep. From her education degree, she taught at several levels and is currently retired. This gives her more time to trace her family's roots which she has been researching for over 25 years.

As a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy and National Society Southern Dames of America, Ann is now engaged in teaching others the craft and exploring ways to find those hidden nuggets of her family's history. Her husband of 30 years assists in her pursuits. She looks forward to passing on her love of genealogy to her two children and her five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Vice President and Board Member- Donna Cary

Donna, a 5th generation Texan, was born in Baytown, Texas, against the backdrop glow of petroleum industrial flames, mixed
with the piney woods/salty/fishy smell of the town's marshy, estuary bay.  It is no coincidence that Donna's educational pursuits
were toward a BS in Biology with a minor in Environmental and Life/Earth sciences.

Donna has lived with her husband in Humble for 27 years.  She was in outside sales for the better part of her employment and
now uses those skills in her - once again - position canvasing potential speakers/programs for AKGS 2016.  Forced retirement
due to an auto accident has allowed Donna to happily pursue her many varied interests...from biology, geology and botany to
baking, scrap booking and reading.  In fact, her favorite genre' is a great, convoluted mystery, and naturally, genealogy research
became the logical segue.

In addition to her 7 1/2 year membership with Atascocita-Kingwood Genealogical Society, Donnas has been a longtime member
of Baytown Genealogy Society, San Antonio Genealogical Society, and now, the Houston Genealogical Forum.

Not only ahs Donna managed to fill in the blanks of many direct ancestors on her ever-expanding tree, but she discovered the
'man in black' - Johnny Cash - is her 5th paternal cousin...though she wishes it were Willie Nelson, instead. LOL

Recording Secretary and Board Member - Judy Mills

Judy is a native Floridian but has resided in Texas since 1968.  She started dabbling in genealogy research, while in high school, after listening to her mom ask her paternal grandmother questions about her family.  Judy has one daughter who helps research sometimes, as well.

Judy earned her Education degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and taught for 36 years before retiring in May 2015.

Corresponding Secretary - Sharon Mize

Sharon and her husband recently took up genealogy as a hobby after Sharon retired from practicing law in New Orleans and they
moved to Kingwood.  They took a class on a whim and were immediately hooked by the interesting stories, the challenge of the
research and the passion of family researchers.  Their combined research has taken them from the original thirteen colonies
through the westward expansion of the United States.

Treasurer and Board Member - Dathyn Bush

Raised in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, I came to Houston on a Business School scholarship.  I went to work as a
secretary for a chemical company and after meeting my late husband, I joined him in Germany for a year.  On our return, I
worked at Texas Children's Hospital until I moved to the Porter area to take over running my husband's family trailer park and
work at Humble Hospital when it first opened.  First working as secretary in Physical Therapy and then Personnel.  While Steve
worked for SW Bell, we opened D & S Nursery & Flower shop in Porter.  After storms took out our flower shop and nursery
business I went back in the business world as office manager and accountant of a small company in Houston.  I had a Girl Scout
troop for 15 years, worked with youth groups in my church, took care of elderly parents and raised two beautiful daughters.  Since
moving to Northcrest Ranch I have been the head of the ACC Committee that oversees the construction projects in the
neighborhood and worked with various Board of Directors to implement the deed restrictions.  For six years I wrote the
neighborhood newsletter and headed the decorating and activities committee.  I am a member of the New Caney Garden Club,
the Northcrest Bunco Club and both THAGS and AKGS genealogy clubs.
